Julie Benz on The Boondock Saints II and What's Next on Dexter

Dexter's Julie Benz stars on one of the most violent dramas on TV but the blood usually comes only at the hands of her on-screen husband, Dexter Morgan. In her new film, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, Benz finds herself right in the middle of the action.

"I actually got to play with guns!" Benz says.

Although Benz had never seen the original 1999 film, she immediately gravitated toward the part of southern belle FBI agent Eunice Bloom. "[Writer-director] Troy Duffy wrote this really amazing woman," Benz says. "She's not a victim or a love interest; she's like a guy but still a woman. That's what I really ... READ MORE

JoBlo - Want Boondocks 2?

It sort of blew my mind when I realized that just two months after seeing the trailer, BOONDOCK SAINTS 2: ALL SAINTS DAY is actually hitting theaters this weekend after 10 years of mulling about. But by "hitting theaters" I mean 65 theaters, and unless you live NY or LA, will probably have a tough time finding it.

But never fear, there’s a grassroots campaign to get the film to your town, much like what happened with PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. You can demand it in your area here, and hopeful enough demands equals a wider release... READ MORE

ScreenRant: Demand to See 'Boondock Saints II' in Your Town

Apparently, there is a new and developing trend in Hollywood and it all started with the breakout hit Paranormal Activity. You see, a few weeks ago Paramount wasn’t planning on giving Paranormal Activity a wide release, but then word started spreading about the film and its popularity grew. What happened next was nothing short of a miracle. The director and producers put a link at the end of the trailer where moviegoers across the nation could “demand” the film be shown in their town. The viral marketing worked and this weekend Paranormal Activity dethroned Saw VI to become the reigning Halloween champ.

The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, Troy Duffy’s long awaited sequel, opens in New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Jersey... READ MORE

Audio interview with The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, Troy Duffy, Sean Patrick Flannery, and Norman Reedus...

boondock_saints_ii_all_saints_dayHere’s a nearly 30 minute interview I did with Troy Duffy, the director of The Boondock Saints and the upcoming The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day (he was also the subject of the muckraking documentary Overnight). Also in attendance were Boondock stars Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus. Sean is very talkative, but Norman almost never interjects and is very soft-spoken. You’ll hear me address him directly about 11 minutes in by saying, “Norman, I feel like I’m ignoring you.” The topics covered in the first 2/3 are mostly about The Boondock Saints II, the casting, the gay jokes, the
fat jokes, the differences between the first and second film, the
budget, trying to pretend that you shot in Boston instead of Toronto,
and a lot of incidents where I try and then fail to be... READ MORE and LISTEN

"Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day is the film I and every other diehard Boondock fan have been absolutely dying to see all decade, and one that is WELL worth the wait."

I remember back in one of my college English classes, we were talking about the work of Jack Kerouac. The professor was talking about how if Kerouac would've had a regular editor for his seminal book On the Road (although many names were changed and explicit content removed - omission doesn't necessarily mean editing), it might have resulted in a more coherent and sound piece of work... but it just wouldn't have been Kerouac. I bring up that weird and rather out of place story for a reason, because it seems to echo the work of maverick filmmaker Troy Duffy, the bartender-turned-filmmaker whose debut film Boondock Saints turned into a cult classic phenomenon. After the well-documented struggles of making the first film, and again with his sequel Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, a decade after the first film famously hit theaters for only one week due to the studio worrying about the Columbine massacre blowback... I'm happy to report that... READ MORE

I said to my dad, who was a six-foot-three, 380-pound Irish guy, ‘What’s the deal?’ He said, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about, I’m not into “reggie” music.’” If Marley is unlikely to ever eclipse his namesake fame-wise, he is a sizable draw on the stand-up circuit and from.. Boondock Saints II: Sean, Norman, Billy and Troy

Now that the movie has been shown to fans, we can finally sit down and talk about it.

I saw “Boondock Saints II” last week. I liked it.

I didn’t like it in the way that I’m a news editor and occasional film critic. I didn’t love it in the way that I’m an artist and I can appreciate a classic piece of film.

Let’s face it, there’s two kinds of people in the world: The ones that love “The Boondock Saints” and the ones who hate “The Boondock Saints.”

And I love “The Boondock Saints.”... Listen to the podcast

The Irish Rican Takes On BOONDOCK SAINTS 2!!

Ryan 'Irish Rican' McLelland here -

I found BOONDOCK SAINTS a couple years after it had hit on video. When I was serving in the military the pilots who flew at night used to watch it incessantly before going off to fly in the helicopters and for some reason I always would walk in during Willam Dafoe's drag scene. This scene never made me want to actually sit down and watch the film. But something stuck with the pilots and the film, even calling themselves 'The Bastardos' after a throwaway line in the movie. One night they forced me to sit down and watch it and I was instantly hooked. Since then I've watched the movie once a month for the next six years.

There seems to be two very different camps for BOONDOCK SAINTS: the ones who... READ MORE

On the sets of 'The Social Network' and 'The Town'

All ‘Saints’ day

Ten years after “Boondock Saints,’’ the film detailing the rise and fall of bartender-turned-scriptwriter Troy Duffy, still has many, many fans. A screening this week of the sequel, “Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day,’’ attracted twice as many people as could be accommodated at the Loews Boston Common. (In the end, more than 300 people had to be turned away.) Duffy told the crowd he had resisted seeing the new film because “I wanted to watch this in my home with a bunch of ‘Boondock’ fans.’’ And afterward when the audience reacted enthusiastically? “My baby’s got 10 fingers and 10 toes. I found that out tonight,’’ Duffy said. Given the filmmaker’s unpredictable nature, we had high hopes for the after-party at the Paradise, but because much of the audience was under 21, they couldn’t get in, so it was a subdued affair. Billy Connolly left early, while Duffy, Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus, and Bob Marley mingled with fans and signed autographs.

Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day – Review

Fans of Troy Duffy’s cult classic waited 10 years for the sequel, and it doesn’t disappoint. I can guarantee you this, if you liked the first one you’ll like the second one. That being said, it doesn’t exactly have the same goodness as the first. But that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a good shoot’em up, action-revenge story that fufills everything a fanboy desires: inside jokes, fidelity to the concept and inside jokes... READ MORE

TROY DUFFY’S original Hollywood story was a fractured fairy tale. As recounted in the documentary “Overnight,” Mr. Duffy reacted to the instant success that came with a multimillion-dollar deal with Miramax for the thriller “The Boondock Saints”
by abusing his friends, family and new corporate partner, doing it all
on camera, and then alienating the filmmakers who had the footage. As
Cinderellas go, he was the type who would smash the glass slipper and
kick Princess Charming down the stairs... READ MORE
