For those of you who don’t know, I am a huge “Boondock Saints” fan and I’m even a new member of the Boondock Bettie Brigade. So when I was asked if I was interested in doing an interview — my very first for It’s Just Movies, mind you — I was not expecting anyone nearly as cool as Brian Mahoney.

It’s not uncommon for Brian Mahoney to return to Framingham, drive through his hometown, stop by a local bar to grab a drink and watch whichever of Boston’s sports team is playing on TV that night.
But one of his most recent visits was more than just a casual stay. Mahoney was preparing for the biggest role of his Hollywood acting career so far – as a co-star in the sequel to “The Boondock Saints,” a crime thriller film set in Boston and released in 1999 that has since gained a cult following.

All ‘Saints’ day
Ten years after “Boondock Saints,’’ the film detailing the rise and fall of bartender-turned-scriptwriter Troy Duffy, still has many, many fans. A screening this week of the sequel, “Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day,’’ attracted twice as many people as could be accommodated at the Loews Boston Common. (In the end, more than 300 people had to be turned away.) Duffy told the crowd he had resisted seeing the new film because “I wanted to watch this in my home with a bunch of ‘Boondock’ fans.’’ And afterward when the audience reacted enthusiastically? “My baby’s got 10 fingers and 10 toes. I found that out tonight,’’ Duffy said. Given the filmmaker’s unpredictable nature, we had high hopes for the after-party at the Paradise, but because much of the audience was under 21, they couldn’t get in, so it was a subdued affair. Billy Connolly left early, while Duffy, Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus, and Bob Marley mingled with fans and signed autographs.
