Old Testament Vengeance With A Twist ...

Boondock Saints II: All Saints DayA decade later, the cult classic The Boondock Saints finally spawns a sequel: All Saints Day. It’s a violent, profane gun battle from beginning to end, pitting the brothers McManus, Conner and Murphy (Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus), against the forces of evil(er) in Boston, Massachusetts. The pair is again joined by their father, Noah (Billy Connolly), and a rough-riding gang of associates that includes Romeo (Clifton Collins, Jr.) and Special Agent Eunice Bloom (Julie Benz). What results is a bloodbath of humorous witticisms and gags, the violence balanced by the way that the actors play it straight… while playing it sideways.

After a priest is gunned down by an evil gunman who frames the brothers for the murder, the family returns from their hideout in Ireland to clear their name and rid Boston of evil. Some of the same characters return, like the trio of cops who might as well be the Three Stooges, or the various men who ran with the brothers in the original. Other pieces of the puzzle which .. The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day Blu-ray Review By Peter Suciu

The Film

Usually sequels come out because a film was a smash hit in one form or another, but in this case most viewers probably never even heard of the original film. While a cult classic, The Boondocks Saints didn't exactly knock 'em dead at the box office, but that doesn't mean that this sequel requires viewing of the previous film.

The story picks up about a decade after the fraternal twin MacManus brothers (known as the Saints and played by Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery) have exacted revenge on the Boston-based mob. After a priest is murdered in a way that imitates their ritualistic style, the pair returns to Beantown for another round of vigilantism, making new friends and enemies along the way. As with the original, The Boondocks Saints II: All Saints Day is filled with... READ MORE

Mr. March: Sean Patrick Flanery (Interview) ...

Sean Patrick Flanery in ‘The Dead Zone’Interview by Kayley Thomas

Sean Patrick Flanery – When I told Heidi I’d set up an interview with him for Pretty/Scary, I think her heart might have stopped momentarily. Mine may have skipped a beat too. There’s a lot to love. He had that cute and creepy thing going for him in Powder. He was simply adorable (I mean, very manly) as Young Indiana Jones. He had the honor of getting ganked by Christopher Walken in Suicide Kings. He’s brought us some serious (and not-so serious) scares in Demon Hunter, The Masters of Horror’s The Damned Thing, Kaw, and The Insatiable, as well as episodes of Charmed, The Outer Limits, The Twilight Zone, and more recently, The Dead Zone. And he’s got some more sf/f and horror in the works: Deadly Impact hits DVD this April with Mongolian Death Worms and Scavengers slated for later in 2010. Plus, he’s pretty easy on the eyes and a sweet, funny guy… READ MORE

Film.com Review: Boondock Saints 2 a Nice Reunion

Nine years ago The Boondock Saints hit the scene with little to no fanfare. But the film found its audience on DVD and over the years has become somewhat of a cult classic due to its brutal action sequences and religious social commentary. By popular demand, writer/director Troy Duffy and the Saints have returned in The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day. But will the sequel reach its predecessor's cult status, or will it be just another lackluster sequel?

The MacManus brothers (Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery) are living the quiet life in the lush green pastures of Ireland until word of a setup involving a priest's murder in their old neighborhood prompts them to ... READ MORE

Boondock Saints Homeless Film Extras

Two homeless guys talk about their experience as film extras on the set of Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day.

Cast: Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus. Filmed by Paul J Alessi - Boondock Saints II : All Saints Day coming soon: www.boondocksaints.com

Cinematical - Interview: 'Boondock Saints II' Director Troy Duffy

The MacManus brothers are back with guns blazing in the long-awaited sequel to The Boondock Saints. The Saints are living in Ireland with dear old dad (Billy Connolly) when they get word a priest in Boston has been killed in a way that sets them up to be the fall guys. Long-haired and bearded from the Irish winters, they shed their hair (and their clothes) to head back to Beantown to set things straight. They're joined by a new Saint, Romeo (Clifton Collins Jr. with a sweet mullet), along with the trio of cops from the first movie. And although the unforgettable FBI Special Agent Paul Smecker (Willem Dafoe) is nowhere to be found, Special Agent Eunice Bloom (Julie Benz) is on the case, full of piss and vinegar just behind that sweet Southern smile.

Who's behind the ... READ MORE

Creating a cult classic: Scene interviews Troy Duffy of 'The Boondock Saints'

The Irish Catholic, vigilante killers of “The Boondock Saints” are back — and they paid a visit to Catholic Disneyland, too. The film’s creator and one of its stars visited Notre Dame’s campus Tuesday evening for several events to promote the release of the new movie.

A lucky 200 students got to see “The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day,” the sequel to the 1999 cult classic. Tickets for the free Tuesday night showing at the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center’s Browning Cinema were snapped up instantly, but an overflow of campus enthusiasm and online support convinced distributor Apparition to open the movie the South Bend-Mishawaka area this weekend.

The Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies and Student Union Board organized two informal discussion sections with the series creator Troy Murphy and one of the film’s actors, Sean Patrick Flanery. Following a... READ MORE

VIDEO: Boondock Saints 2 makes its Maine premiere

VIDEO: Boondock Saints 2 makes its Maine premiere... http://ping.fm/c3bD6

WESTBROOK (NEWS CENTER) -- Ten years ago, a young screenwriter from Maine penned a movie that became an instant indi-cult classic, Boondock Saints. Now, director Troy Duffy is bringing back the McManus brothers for another go.

"Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day" made its Maine premiere on Monday night at the Westbrook Cinemagic. Hundreds of Boondock fans turned out to see the McManus brothers exact a little revenge on the Boston Mafia after the mob killed the brothers' priest.

On hand for the showing, was the movie's director, as well as a few of the stars, including Maine comedian Bob Marley, who brings back Detective Greenly, a wise-cracking cop. Governor John Baldacci was there too, declaring Monday "Bob Marley Day."

The path to making "Boondock Saints 2" was a long one for Duffy. He lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in the making of the original Boondock Saints, even though the film made more than 50 million dollars. Admittedly, Duffy says he was just a kid making a movie. Making the sequel was fulfilling because during filming he had all his focus on the fans.

"The first time we didn't have the fan base, we were just a bunch of kids running the asylum," said Duffy. "This time we had the fan base looming over that set. The Boondock fan bases isn't like any other."

Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day will open up across the state on Friday. The cast of the movie included Peter Fonda, Billy Connelly, and Maine-native, Judd Nelson.

Sean Patrick Flanery audio interview from CD101 Morning Show

Sean Patrick Flanery audio interview from CD101 Morning Show (middle of the page)... http://cd101.com/sections/onAir/DJ.aspx?dj_id=57

Coming Soon's interview with Troy Duffy and the Boondock Saints

"I'm coming soon... I'm coming soon... don't move, don't move... Oh my God, you moved! Ahhh Ahhh!"

Yes, this interview begins with a rather adolescent take on our site's good name, and it ends with a laugh, so you know you're dealing with a filmmaker who knows how to have a good time.

That filmmaker is Troy Duffy, who became a household name in Tinseltown when Miramax paid the Boston bartender $450,000 to write and direct his debut film with a budget of $15 million dollars, making him the kind of rags-to-riches success story the media revels in. That was 1997. Two years later, the film had been completed for less than half that budget and without the participation of Miramax, who had pulled out due to creative conflicts with Duffy. The independent distributor who purchased the movie The Boondock Saints barely released it in theaters and it marched solemnly to the direct-to-video graveyard.

Typically, this is where the Wikipedia entry ends, possibly with addendums like "Troy Duffy has not been interviewed since 1999, and currently works as a bartender in Boston."

However, The Boondock Saints, like its main characters, was not a movie that simply lays down and dies and its director has not gone gentle into that good night. When "Saints" was... READ MORE

Interview: 'The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day' Director Troy Duffy on Hollywood's 'Financial Irresponsibility'

CHICAGO – “There’s not a bigger ‘f*ck you!’ from Hollywood than when they say: ‘Eh, we’re not going to release this film.’” But then the fans say: “Oh, you know what? About $100 million says that you are retarded. It says that you made a bad decision,” “The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day” star Sean Patrick Flanery said in a Chicago interview with... READ MORE
