From Exeter to 'Boondocks' by Seacoast Online

Writer/director of cult fave finds vindication in success of second 'Saints' film

"Boondock Saints" maverick Troy Duffy, 38, is a man of two worlds.

There's the son of a Harvard-educated English teacher who raised his five children to give book reports on the classics.

This Troy Duffy won writing awards from Shel Silverstein, as well as other lauds his father said are "too numerous to mention," and at age 14 gave such a mature analysis of James Joyce's "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" it moved his father to tears.

This Troy was born in Connecticut but spent most of his youth on the Seacoast, as the family bought hotels along the New Hampshire and southern Maine coast. He attended Barnard School in South Hampton and graduated from Exeter High School while living in the family's 7,500-square-foot house in Kensington.

Two years ago Troy and his wife, Angela, were married on the grounds of the waterfront home his father, Robert, and stepmother, Judith Duffy, built on the edge of the Piscataqua River in Eliot, Maine.
